Wash & Care

Your Allbirds are made to move, so it’s a good bet they’ll need a deep clean now and then. Fortunately, our shoes were designed to be washed, with no impact on their performance or shape. Just follow the instructions below to get back that new shoe feel.

Machine Washing

Yep, our shoes—with a few exceptions—love the washing machine. Get ‘em feeling fresh in a few easy steps.

Machine Washing

Yep, our shoes—with a few exceptions—love the washing machine. Get ‘em feeling fresh in a few easy steps.

Step 1

Remove insoles and laces and brush off excess dirt with a towel or soft brush.

Step 2

Place shoes in a delicates bag (pro tip: a pillowcase works too).

Step 3

Choose a gentle cycle with cold water and a small amount of mild detergent. (Don’t use fabric softener or bleach.)

Step 4

Shake out any excess water and set aside to air dry. Pick a spot with good air movement, like outside, in front of a window, or under a fan. Avoid machine drying.

Step 5

Shoes will regain their original shape in one or two wears.

Hand Washing

If you’re looking for a gentler touch, good old-fashioned hand washing’s the way to go. For an even quicker touch-up, use a scrub brush or sturdy, wet cloth to rub down your shoes. If the mud or grime is especially nasty, this is a quick way to bring them back to life.

Step 1

Remove insoles and laces. Fill a sink or bucket with warm, soapy water and toss in the laces. Set aside your insoles.

Step 2

Dip a scrub brush or toothbrush into the soapy water and get to work, starting by scrubbing the soles of your shoes and moving up to the uppers.

Step 3

Wipe down shoes with a wet cloth to get all the leftover soap suds.

Step 4

Rinse your laces and insoles with warm water, and set everything out to dry.

Old Soles?

Feet stink. It’s a fact of life—and usually the absorbent insoles are the main culprit. We want you to wear your Allbirds for a long, long time, so we offer premium replacement insoles—high cushion, lined with our merino fabric—at a fraction of other replacement insoles on the market.
